Job Introduction

An opportunity is available for a Craftsperson (Fitting) within the Capital Delivery Projects Team, based at Swansea.

The primary duties of the post will be to carry out maintenance and project work on switchgear and plant at 132kV and 33kV substations.

Candidates are required to have Grade A*-C/4-9 GCSE in English and Maths or Functional Skills Level qualification in both subjects. 

Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.

Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

National Grid Electricity Distribution is committed to safeguarding the interests of the Company, colleagues and customers. This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service, (DBS) check, depending on the role different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.

Ideal candidate

The successful candidate would ideally have Fitting experience. Consideration will be given to applicants who do not possess all the skills required to undertake the role at present but have the confidence and ability to reach the necessary standards with appropriate training.

If not already attained the successful candidate will be required to study for Level 2 City & Guilds 2339 qualification and complete TAR - which includes daily diary completion and a number of tasks and reports as required.

Please note, where job roles involve working at height and the use of Personal Fall Protection Equipment, there are restrictions on the maximum weight of the individual.

You must be able to work on your own initiative as part of a small team, making on the spot decisions as required and working to tight deadlines. A flexible attitude is essential as you may be asked to undertake other duties to assist the team in meeting it's objectives. In addition, you will need to be mobile throughout the area as you may be required to undertake standby duties.
